to the Transumbilical (bellybutton incision) Breast Augmentation.
1. Q: Will I be able to breastfeed my babies?
A: Yes.
2. Q: Will I lose sensation to the nipple?
A: Unlikely, but possible.
3. Q: When can I resume my physical exercises?
A: During the first week.
4. Q: Can I pick up my child?
A: Yes you can.
5. Q: Can I go into a jacuzzi/swimming pool?
A: Yes, after one week.
6. Q: When can I wear an underwire bra?
A: Three months after surgery.
7. Q: If I live out of town, when may I return
to my home?
A: The day after your surgery.
8. Q: What lab work is necessary?
A: If your general health is well, the only requirement
is a preoperative mammogram-Hemoglobin/Hemocrit & pregnancy
test (if you are still able to bear children).
9. Q: Can this procedure be performed on patients
who have had a sex change?
A: Yes, after the primary procedure has been completed.
10. Q: How long is the surgery?
A: General 20 - 30 minutes. You are actually in
the Surgical Suite approximately one hour.
11. Q: Are post-operative visits included in the
quoted fees?
A: Yes, for one year. The fee also includes the
surgeon's fee, anesthesia, and the out-patient surgical
suite costs.
12. Q: Are there any guarantees?
A: The breast implants are guaranteed for your
life.
13. Q: When can I take a shower?
A: The next day following your procedure.
14. Q: With the transumbilical approach, can the
implant be placed Retropectoral (under the muscle)?
A: Yes, this poses no difficulty.
15. Q: What implants are used?
A: Smooth saline filled from Mentor Corporation.
16. Q: Do you recommend breast massage?
A: Yes, most definitely. We refer to it as breast
displacement exercises which should be done without fail
three times a day for three months.
17. Q: How will implants affect existing stretch
marks?
A: They may soften the area because of increased
volume.
18. Q: Will the surgery cause stretch marks?
A: We have not seen this with the technique but
it is possible.
19. Q: How are the fill sizes determined?
A: With this procedure, the patient picks the size
they wish to become.
20. Q: What type of anesthesia is used?
A: Generally I.V. sedation and/or General

A: Scar tissue which has formed around the implant.
The transumbilical approach has greatly reduced this problem.
22. Q: What is rippling?
A: Indentation of breast skin over the implant
capsule. Filling of the implant to its maximum capacity
helps prevent this.
23. Q: How long have you been performing breast
augmentation procedures?
A: I have been doing breast augmentation since
1989 and been performing exclusively the transumbilical
(bellybutton) technique since 1995.
24. Q: When can the patient return to work?
A: Normal work duties, excluding lifting over 10
pounds, either the second or third day following surgery.
